A stellar addition to the 360º The Challenge Gran Canaria. The demanding self-sufficiency race to be held from 15th to 19th November will count on the participation of two trail running legends in the new relay modality. Iker Karrera and Zigor Iturrieta are the confirmed pair to fight for the victory in a modality where the team strategy takes on special importance. The Basque runners are the favourites to win, together with the pair formed by Yeray Durán and Álex Fraguela, runners from the Arista Pro Team, who will also take the start in Tejeda on 15 November.
Winner of prestigious races such as the Tor des Geants in 2013, Lavaredo Ultra-Trail in 2012 or the Transalpine Run in 2012, Iker Karrera is one of the best mountain runners of all time and arrives for the first time at the 360º The Challenge Gran Canaria after having taken the start in 2015 in the queen modality of The North Face Transgrancanaria. Three years later and with a first-class track record, he decided to abandon top-level competition, although he has not given up racing and his passion for the mountains.
The new relay race will allow runners to enter into self-sufficiency and unmarked races, where, in addition to a remarkable physical fitness, a good orienteering ability is essential. The pairs, who will face the same course and will have the same time limit (101 hours) as the runners in the original version, will have to decide which intervals each of them will do during the course, although they will always have to pass the baton inside the life bases located along the track. One of the participants will start with the rest of the participants from Tejeda and, in order to finish this adventure, both of them will have to cross the finish line together in the town of Tejeda.
The route will be kept secret until ten days before the start. Arista Eventos, the organising company of the race, will provide the participants with detailed maps to help them find their way along the track, which will be unmarked, as well as different digital files to be uploaded to GPS devices, which will also allow them to follow the race track. This challenge allows participants to discover corners of Gran Canaria that are practically untouched. Registrations for the 360 The Challenge Gran Canaria are still available on the official website www.360thechallenge.
