The northern municipality will take centre stage at The North Face Transgrancanaria 2027 and 360° The Challenge Gran Canaria 2026, two of the most demanding and internationally recognized ultradistance races, both organized by Arista Eventos
The municipality of Gáldar is set to become one of the leading venues of two of the most important and globally recognized trail running races in the world: The North Face Transgrancanaria, in its 2027 edition, and 360° The Challenge Gran Canaria, in its 2026 edition. Both races are organized by Arista Eventos and turn Gran Canaria — and Gáldar in particular — into a global reference for mountain sport and endurance racing.
The Mayor of Gáldar, Teodoro Sosa, and the Councillor for Communication, Transparency and Tourism, Ulises Miranda, held a meeting with Fernando González, CEO of Arista Eventos, and Wendy Cruz, Marketing Coordinator at Arista Eventos, to detail the agreement that will make Gáldar one of the main protagonists of both international races.
The North Face Transgrancanaria: Historic Record in its 27th Edition
The recent 27th edition of The North Face Transgrancanaria reached unprecedented milestones in its history. With more than 6,000 registered athletes across its 8 categories, and the participation of runners from 75 countries, the race consolidates its position among the great fixtures of world trail running. The elite categories featured some of the best athletes on the planet, raising the competitive level of the event even further.
For the first time in its history, the race featured a live streaming production of more than 20 hours, produced by a team of nearly 40 people. Live commentary was broadcast in Spanish and English, with the participation of special guests including athletes Hayden Hawks, Stephanie Case and Naiara Irigoyen. The total reach of the broadcast exceeded 220,000 viewers.
These figures are complemented by media coverage from more than 100 accredited journalists and photographers from countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, China and Finland, among many others. The combination of in-house production and international media impact confirms The North Face Transgrancanaria as one of the races with the greatest global reach on the mountain running calendar.
360° The Challenge Gran Canaria 2026: Participation Record at the World’s Toughest Self-Sufficiency Race
The 2025 edition of 360° The Challenge Gran Canaria broke all its historic participation records. Considered one of the toughest ultradistance races in the world without external assistance, this year it surpassed one hundred participants, with 107 athletes from 22 nationalities on the start line.
The race also recorded its highest ever female participation, with 11 women at the start. Participants tackle a course of more than 220 kilometres and over 12,000 metres of positive elevation gain, in conditions of total self-sufficiency, without external support and carrying all the equipment necessary for survival throughout the race. A true test of physical and mental endurance.
Gáldar’s presence at both events reinforces the municipality’s commitment to sport, active tourism and the international profile of Gran Canaria as a benchmark destination for mountain running and trail running enthusiasts.
